JUNIOR/ASSISTANT VOLUNTEER SWIM COACH Valencia Northbridge Bluefins Swimming
Job Description: A Junior Swim Coach is a volunteer position responsible for assisting the head coach with all practice day and meet day functions of the swim team. A Junior coach will commit to working a weekly schedule beginning mid May through our end-of-year banquet (mid July). Dates and times are listed below. Junior Coaches will report directly to the Head Junior Coach(es).
Minimum Requirements: Bluefin swimmers entering 7th grade are welcome to participate. Candidates must have: swim team experience; strong communications and organizational skills; interest and ability to work with children and swimmers of various abilities. Must be able to attend the mandatory training day(s), Pancake Breakfast and CPR Training before the first day of the season. Returning Junior Coaches are eligible to volunteer a minimum of 70 hours for the season. New Junior Coaches are required to volunteer for a minimum of 50 hours for the season.
Position Summary: Be Present, Positive, and Committed!
Provide direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for swim team participants. Attend swim meets and team functions throughout the season. Maintain a clean and safe environment for all Bluefin swimmers. Experienced and returning Junior Coaches may have more senior leadership roles.
Essential Functions:
- Assist Head Coach in implementing age-appropriate workouts focused on technique, stroke development and endurance.
- Know the governing rules for each age group.
- Be prepared to provide in water instruction and demonstration.
- Be attentive and alert at all times while on the pool deck.
- Assist Head Coach with administrative matters relating to the team, swim meet arrangements, and team performance.
- Attend swim team events such as meets, meetings, etc.
- Help maintain a clean and safe environment for swim team participants.
- In difficult situations, refer swimmers or parents to the Head Coach to resolve conflicts. Do not attempt to rectify or solve the issue.
Service Hours: Junior Coaches may earn community service hours for participating in this program. Bluefins Swimming MAY IMPLEMENT A LIMIT TO THE NUMBER OF JUNIOT COACHES FOR THE TEAM.
